Imagine every necessary product you can conceive being available at the tip of your fingers; this idea may have seemed highly unlikely twenty years ago, but today, it is entirely possible with the invention of eCommerce entities. eCommerce is essentially the sale and purchase of goods using an online interface, a model that has been highly popular with the technological age we are in. It allows us to buy anything from food products, clothing, household necessities, stocks, and almost anything required in our daily life, all with a simple online platform. Companies like Amazon, and eBay are excellent examples of how these kinds of companies work to sell their products and make a profit while tailoring to a customer’s preferences. However, eCommerce isn’t limited simply to massive corporations selling their products online; even consumers can sell goods and services. An example of a consumer-to-consumer sale would be Fiverr, an eCommerce where individuals can sell their services to other consumers, which was a great alternative for those who want to utilize talents that aren’t otherwise being used. They are not just efficient, fast, and much more convenient to use given that it is accessible at any time all throughout the week, but also, they allow consumers to spend the time they want when buying products without the usual bustle of in-person stores.
eCommerce also has massively increased the accessibility of starting a business. Now all you need is an Internet-connected device, some capital, goods/services, knowledge of the workings of your platform, which anyone can acquire through online resources, and you can set up in eCommerce! The Covid-19 crisis greatly stimulated the progress of the eCommerce world with people buying all their necessities online and helped individuals make an extra income through platforms like Fiverr who may have been dealing with the economic downturn. According to a study by Statista, in 2021, 27.2% of the world’s population shop online and that figure is only projected to grow. Innovation leads to efficiency, and eCommerce is a business’ greatest innovation. It is the future; it may seem to be at its grassroots level now but keep a lookout, as it is on the rise and will soon be unparalleled in its business model.
